A Board is a group of representatives brought together to fulfill a
social, economic or development role.” The main function, however, is
managing the affairs of the organization. Our board makes suggestions
and sets direction for all phases of PNB activities. Because of the
Board’s diverse background their work is of great value. The Board
of Potatoes New Brunswick is made up of 10 directors from
6 districts;
each director is elected by the growers in that region and serves an
initial 3 year term. Board members can and often do remain on the
board for a second three year term as well. However, because of time
and work commitments this is not always possible.
Our Board is effective because our board directs the operations of the organization, our
staff and how PNB
can best serve NB potato farmers. This is a difficult task and is
accomplished through a number of permanent and “project specific”
committees.
Our Board of directors, because it is very
active, has accomplished a great deal on behalf of our industry.
Major accomplishments include:
|
 |
A
transparent financial reporting system |
|
 |
A
board signature on every check issued |
|
 |
At
least 4 district meetings per year in each district |
|
 |
Successful lobbying for a number of important programs and projects |
|
 |
Representation on provincial, federal and international potato
committees and organizations, which deal with contract negotiations,
plant health, and trade & regulatory issues. |
The Executive Director is hired by the Board of directors following
a professional selection process. The Executive Director manages the
day to day operations of Potatoes New Brunswick to accomplish the
goals and objectives set by the board. Together, the Board, Executive
Director and staff of Potatoes New Brunswick provide a responsible
voice for our growers.
